## Aluminum Alloys

Aluminum is one of the most commonly machined materials due to its favorable strength-to-weight ratio, excellent machinability, and corrosion resistance. We regularly machine aluminum alloys such as 6061-T6 and 7075-T6 for aerospace brackets, enclosures, heat sinks, and structural components.

Aluminum machines efficiently at high speeds, allowing for tight tolerances and smooth surface finishes. It is well-suited for prototypes and production runs where weight reduction is a priority without sacrificing structural integrity.

## Carbon and Alloy Steels

Carbon steels and alloy steels are selected for applications requiring high strength, hardness, and wear resistance. Common grades include 1018, 1045, 4140, and 4340. These materials are used in shafts, gears, fixtures, and industrial machinery components.

Steel machining requires appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds to achieve accurate dimensions and acceptable surface finishes. Heat treatment considerations are factored into machining sequences when hardened properties are specified.

## Stainless Steel

Stainless steel grades such as 303, 304, and 316 are machined for applications where corrosion resistance, sanitary requirements, or elevated temperature performance is necessary. These materials are common in food processing equipment, medical devices, and marine hardware.

Stainless steel is more challenging to machine than aluminum or mild steel due to its work-hardening characteristics. Proper tool selection and coolant application are essential to maintain dimensional accuracy and extend tool life.

## Plastics

Engineering plastics such as Delrin (acetal), UHMW, nylon, and PEEK are machined for components requiring low friction, chemical resistance, or electrical insulation. Plastic parts are used in conveyor systems, bushings, wear pads, and specialized fixtures.

Plastics require different machining parameters than metals to prevent melting, chipping, or poor surface finish. Tool geometry and feed rates are adjusted to accommodate the thermal and mechanical properties of each plastic type.
