    PEEK CNC Machining

Precision CNC milling and turning of PEEK (polyether ether ketone) and PEEK-CF30 for medical, semiconductor, and aerospace components. Olympus Machining is a U.S.-based, ITAR-registered CNC machine shop in Hanover, Pennsylvania.

    PEEK Grades We Machine

    • PEEK (unfilled): Natural grade. Tensile strength ~100 MPa (14.5 ksi), continuous service to 480°F (250°C), excellent chemical resistance. Medical implant grades per ASTM F2026. Used for surgical instrument components, semiconductor handling parts, and electrically insulating structural pieces.
    • PEEK-CF30 (30% carbon-fiber filled): Tensile strength ~215 MPa (31 ksi), higher stiffness and dimensional stability than unfilled PEEK. Used for aerospace structural brackets, robotics components, and parts requiring metal-like rigidity at a fraction of the weight.
    • PEEK-GF30 (glass-fiber filled): Higher creep resistance and dimensional stability than unfilled grade. Used in electrical and chemical processing applications.

    Machining Approach

PEEK is among the most demanding engineering plastics to machine. It is dimensionally sensitive to heat, can develop internal stresses that release during cutting and distort the part, and the carbon-fiber-filled grades are highly abrasive to tooling. Olympus Machining runs PEEK with polished sharp carbide tooling, moderate surface speeds, climb-milling strategies, and air blast — not coolant — to avoid thermal shock to thin sections. Thick stock is roughed and then allowed to stress-relieve before finishing passes are taken.

For PEEK-CF30, we use diamond-coated or polycrystalline diamond (PCD) tooling on production runs to manage the high abrasion. Tool path strategies are sized to control radial engagement and protect tool life.

    Typical Tolerances & Finish

    • ±0.002″ on milled features, ±0.001″ on precision turned features (PEEK expands and contracts more than metals — tolerance is driven by thermal stability of the application as much as by the cut)
    • Ra 0.8 µm achievable as-machined on unfilled PEEK; rougher on CF30 due to fiber pullout
    • Medical implant grades per ASTM F2026 traceable to certified raw stock
    • Certificates of Conformance with every shipment

    Typical Applications

    Medical

Surgical instrument bodies, implant trial components, dental handpieces, sterilizable insulators.

    Semiconductor

Wafer handling components, vacuum-chamber insulators, chemical-resistant fixtures.

    Aerospace

Lightweight structural brackets in PEEK-CF30, electrical isolators, harness routing hardware.
